The Minister of Mines, Industry, and Technological Development (ai), Prof. FUH CALISTUS GENTRY, chaired this afternoon, March 30, a working session and exchange with Their Excellencies John G. Robinson, Chargé d’Affaires (ai) at the US Embassy in Cameroon, , and the Australian High Commissioner based in Abuja, Leilani Bin-Juda Oam. They were accompanied by several senior officials from their respective diplomatic missions.
The discussions focused on investment opportunities and ways to strengthen cooperation in Cameroon’s mining sector.
During the session, the Minister provided an overview of the Cameroonian mining sector and highlighted key ongoing projects across the country, emphasizing the sector’s prospects as well as major challenges.
He also underscored Cameroon’s strategic geoeconomic position in Africa, given the diversity of its mineral resources. Notably, Cameroon hosts around 10 of the 60 critical minerals identified globally, including cobalt, nickel, manganese, lithium, and titanium, demonstrating the country’s significant mining potential.
The diplomats emphasized the increasing global importance of critical minerals for sustainable economic development and expressed their interest in supporting Cameroon’s efforts in responsible and sustainable mining exploration.
Beyond mining operations, the United States and Australia reaffirmed their commitment to capacity building, technical assistance, and skills transfer to strengthen the sector. They also stressed the importance of a robust legal and regulatory framework to attract further foreign investment.
The guests expressed interest in continuing discussions on business opportunities, infrastructure development, and enhancing the mining value chain. They also indicated plans to visit mining sites to assess potential improvements and partnership opportunities, reflecting a commitment to closer collaboration with Cameroon.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue dialogue and promote mutually beneficial cooperation aimed at advancing the Cameroonian mining sector and supporting broader economic development. The session ended in a cordial atmosphere, marked by a group photo.
