Yaoundé, 5 August 2025, The Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development (a.i.), Professor Fuh Calistus Gentry, granted an audience to Her Excellency Leilani Bin-Juda, High Commissioner of Australia to Cameroon, who was accompanied by Mr. Anton Bouckley, Second Secretary, and Dr. Diane Acha-Morfaw, Honorary Consul of Australia.

This courtesy visit marks an important step in strengthening bilateral cooperation between Cameroon and Australia, particularly in the mining sector.

During the discussions, both parties reviewed the current state of cooperation and explored new investment opportunities.

The Minister of Mines highlighted the country’s ambition to become a major player in the African mining sector, supported by its exceptional geological potential and a firm commitment to transitioning towards a structured mining economy. This includes the reorganisation of artisanal mining, the strict regulation of semi-mechanised mining through a closed-loop system, and the central role of SONAMINES in safeguarding the State’s interests in resource exploitation.

It is worth noting that Australia is already active in Cameroon’s mining sector through the Minim Martap bauxite mining project, operated by Camalco, a subsidiary of Canyon Resources.
The Minister expressed his desire to see increased Australian investment in Cameroon, reaffirming the country’s openness to foreign partnerships in a spirit of mutually beneficial collaboration.
